The most trending and recognized pageant in the Eastern part of Nigeria, Asaigbo Beauty Pageant which is powered by Skybased integrated Concerns LTD and Asaigbo Foundation, finally, has dated the much anticipated season 3 Grand Finale of the 2016 Miss Asaigbo Beauty Pageant and Igbo Merit Awards.
According to the CEO of Asaigbo Foundation, Akubueze Mike with authorityngr.com “The vision of this beauty pageant is out of my desire to uplift our beautiful ladies and to make them embrace our culture and traditions, especially Igbo language, as you know Igbo language is going extinct“.
“Asa Igbo beauty pageant is an all-round Igbo cultural explosion, we don’t have any bikini segment, it’s all about Igbo culture and traditional wears“.
“We try to explore the abilities of these young ladies on issues concerning our culture and traditional values. Our focus is not only on the facial or structural beauty, we look out for the inner beauty and intellect of the contestants before we crown the queen”.
“We have been writing to all the governors of the South Eastern States, without any meaningful result, 95% of all the funds that has gone into this project from season 1 to this 3rd season has been from my family, my wife has also been supportive, you know that by celebrating the Igbo woman, I am invariably celebrating my wife, my mother, my daughter and my sisters. Though I am optimistic that the people’s Governor of Imo State will definitely support us this year as Imo State is hosting this year’s edition”.
“Every year we give out a brand new car to the winner and this is personal funds, totaling about N30m in the last 4 years. I am however not discouraged by this because asides the fact that we have not been able to receive corporate sponsorship, I am encouraged by the level of acceptance the project has received within this short time, everywhere we go, people appreciate us and encourage us not to relent in the bid to revitalize our Igbo culture and tradition among the youths. This has led to our brothers and sisters in Diaspora calling for international editions of the Asa Igbo Beauty Pageant and we are currently working on having the London and the US editions before the end of this year. Asa Igbo beauty pageant is arguably the only beauty pageant that parents are the ones that enroll their children to participate; it is just like school enrollment, because the cultural values contained in the project are enormous”, he said.
