Zlatan Ibrahimovic has admitted handled the ball in the build up to Paul Pogba’s goal against Crystal Palace. After a goalless opening 45 minutes, Juan Mata floated a free kick delivery into the area in first-half stoppage time which Ibrahimovic flicked on to Pogba to break the deadlock from six yards.
TV replays appeared to show Ibrahimovic using his upper arm when turning towards the fellow summer signing, with Pogba standing offside before tucking home.
When questioned after the game if he handled the ball, Ibrahimovic told BT Sport: “Could be, could be.
“I tried to pass to Paul as I saw he was free and I think it touched my hand first then my stomach. I will have to see the images.”
Palace equalised in the second half before Juan Mata looked to quickly restore Manchester United’s lead only to be flagged offside, a decision Pogba deemed a “mistake” by the referee.
Pogba added: “That’s football sometimes. The referee made the mistakes but you have to carry on playing.”
The world’s most expensive player was named man of the match for his performance at Selhurst Park, with a jokingly reluctant Ibrahimovic tasked with awarding the prize.
“No, I’ll keep it for myself,” the Swede responded when prompted as Pogba laughed.
Ibrahimovic wrapped up the three points for United with an 88th-minute winner, latching on to Pogba’s pass to finish past Wayne Hennessey.
