As the race has truly commenced for appointment into offices in the incoming administration of Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, there is a need for merit to be placed as a prima facie criterion for successful appointees. Merit is a term that suggests the ability to perform very well in a particular area of endeavour. One of the areas Hon. Emeka Ihedioha should appoint Special Assistants (SA) is in entertainment and tourism. It is interesting to note that he promises a great transformation of the sector in the State.
In Imo State today, one name that rings a bell when the entertainment and tourism industry is being considered in Imo State is Prince Mike Akubueze. While some people love to call him “Mr Entertainment“. Some people prefer to address him “Mr Asaigbo“.
Over the past few years, Prince Akubueze has steadily registered his presence in the entertainment and tourism industry both in Imo State and Nigeria. This has been courtesy of the “Asaigbo Beauty Pageant” which is organized by him with winners carting away car and cash prizes. He is also the President of Igbo Merit Awards. His profile in the entertainment industry proves that he has a knack for identifying prospects in the entertainment industry.
He has so far shown that he has the foresight to run entertainment and tourism things very well. For example, it is on record that he single-handed brings the creme-de-la-creme of the society to Imo State every year.
With his entertainment company, he has so far hosted the following under one umbrella of Igbo Merit Awards Recipients Union: Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, I’m State governor-elect; Dr. Mrs Patience Goodluck Jonathan, former First Lady of Nigeria; Distinguished Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy President of the Senate; Senator-elect Orji Uzor Kalu, former governor of Abia State; Rt. Hon. Uche Onyeagucha, former Honourable Member of the House of Representatives; Chief Mrs. Becky Zanders, celebrity broadcast media entrepreneur; Chief Peter Edochie, veteran star Nollywood actor, Chief Kanayo O Kanayo, veteran star Nollywood actor; Mrs. Patience Ozokwor, veteran star Nollywood actress; and many others.
As his numerous admirers call him, Mr Entertainment has since 2014 been convincingly hinting and assuring that the entertainment industry in Imo State is an untapped gold mine and money-making machine which if well harnessed will increase the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) by yielding about N15 billion annually.
He has ample international exposure and network of contacts, having lived and worked in over five European countries and Asia with his major preoccupation being the entertainment industry. He acquired relevant theory and practical training and skills on the economics and technology of the entertainment industry. Prince Mike Akubueze witnessed how the entertainment industry in those countries contributed much to their Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Today, as a mark of regard for merit and patriotism, he is cooperating with and providing technical support to the Entertainment Sub-committee of 2019 Imo State Inauguration Transition Planning and Handover Committee of Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, the governor-elect.
While that is going on, Prince Mike Akubueze is currently smiling to the bank with his latest contract from Mbara New York Hotels and Obi-Igbo Cultural Centre, New York where he is the Consultant to the forthcoming Mr. Obi-Igbo and Miss Obi-Igbo Beauty Pageant in which both male and female contestants will be selected to participate in the grand finale slated for New York in September.
According to industry players, the Obi-Igbo Beauty Pageant will be the first in Nigerian that its grande finale will hold in the United States of America.
Therefore, for all its worth, the entertainment and tourism sector in Imo State deserves a very experienced professional in the industry to assist His Excellency, Mr. Governor, to organize and tap the abundant treasure in the sector.
If, as the governor-elect has declared, merit is the basis for being a part of the incoming administration, then Prince Mike Akubueze is the Imo man that the cap fits. Let him wear it as Special Assistant on Entertainment and Tourism to the Governor. Thank you.
